Did you know... before the industrial revolution people only worked 3 hours a day?
Sounds great. But when you consider that for most of our ancestors the other 21 hours was spent living in a leaky hovel, going to work doesn't sound so bad.
Things have moved on since then. A couple of hundred years before "Madchester" introduced us to ravers and crusty jugglers, Cottonopolis as it was known (yes, really), was kicking off another revolution. And when Manchester started building its factories in the 1700's, it spawned a whole other industry - industrial roofing.

A Guide group in Grays were desperate for funding to help purchase new tents in time for Essex International Jamboree this summer and the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) gladly stepped in to help.
4th Grays Guides, based in Grays, Essex, had a disastrous camp earlier this year when the roof of their patrol tents flooded. But with just weeks until the group were due to attend Essex International Jamboree they were in need of new tents, and fast. NFRC, the UK’s largest roofing trade association, heard about their dilemma and were more than happy to help support the girls, sponsoring the group £350 to buy new tents.

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) Ltd, the UK’s oldest roofing trade association, has been receiving an unprecedented number of calls from members of the public, who have been approached about moss removal, which is usually followed up with the tiles being painted in order, so it is claimed, to prolong the life of the roof.
While NFRC is a dedicated roofing trade association that has been around for over 120 years we have never recognised the practice of moss removal or roof painting as a true roofing discipline.

TrustMark, one of the leading Trade Association bodies for the Building and Construction Industry, has received a staggeringly high volume of web traffic since the beginning of this year. This emphasises a need for local roofers, who want to become a Redland Select member, to become accredited with TrustMark.
The new consumer website Myredlandroof launched last year, as the first of its kind on the market. It has the main objective of becoming the number one search facility for homeowners looking for a local trusted roofing contractor in their area.
In order to appear in the reputable online search database of Myredlandroof, roofers must belong to one of the main Trade Association bodies; TrustMark is one of these and is a not for profit organisation, licensed by the government.

Dow Building Solutions – the inventor of STYROFOAM insulation – is using Ecobuild 2012 (stand N1750) to launch XENERGY SL, a new generation extruded polystyrene (XPS) for insulation of inverted flat roofs.
XENERGY XPS combines the proven features of STYROFOAM XPS - durability, reliability and strength – but has even better insulation performance thanks to the addition of infra-red blocking particles to scatter and reflect heat radiation within the foam board.
Now, roof designers and contractors are the first to be offered XENERGY SL designed for inverted roof insulation, an extension to Dow’s already popular ROOFMATE SL-A product range.

Roofing and insulation materials supplier SIG has returned to profit but warned its UK business is beginning to feel the bite of Government austerity cuts.
The Sheffield-based group reported pre-tax profits of £7.5 million in the year to December 31, compared with losses of £80.8 million the previous year, as it outperformed its markets and benefited from a restructuring.
In the UK and Ireland, sales increased by 3.6% despite it reducing branch numbers by 34 to 330, as trade was boosted by a slight increase in its residential markets and by strong commercial demand in the South East.
