SIG Roofing & Roofline completes SR Timber acquisition

SIG Roofing & Roofline has announced the completion of its acquisition of SR Timber Ltd in a move which it says will strengthen the group’s commitment to ensuring continuity of supply of roof battens.
Talk of SIG acquiring SR Timber had been circulating in the roofing industry since before Christmas but SIG only made an announcement yesterday.
The move has raised questions about whether SIG intends to continue buying battens from other suppliers - something that has not yet been made clear.

ECIC launches new roofing contractors scheme

The package is available to members of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), as well as those registered as a CompetentRoofer.
ECIC said the scheme is suitable for contractors who specialise in roofing disciplines such as pitched and heritage roofing, green roofing and waterproof coatings.
Giles broker of choice for roofing confederation

The broker is now creating tailored policies for members, expanding their portfolio of suitable cover available.
The announcement follows the launch of a roofing contractors scheme by the Electrical Contractors Insurance Company for certified roofers and industry body members.
Giles will operate an exclusive hotline for members of the industry body to contact a dedicated construction team, each member being allocated a dedicated account handler.
ECIC launches roofing contractor scheme

The new product will feature no height limit, and interest-free instalments.
ECIC chief underwriting officer Richard Forrest Smith said that the cover was developed specifically for the roofing trade, with policy wordings factoring in the needs of the profession.
"This type of work requires contractors to have a real understanding of all the risks involved and ensure they have the right cover for the work they will be carrying out," he added.
Giles seals exclusive roofing contractor deal

Giles Insurance Brokers has been chosen as the exclusive broker for members of the Confederation of Roofing Contractors (CORC).
The broker is currently working to create tailored policies for CORC members, which it intends to add to its wider construction insurance portfolio.
CORC membership coordinator Allan Buchan said Giles was chosen over other brokers because it offered cover for more complex risks such as asbestos, which was a typical exclusion under many standard construction policies.
Minster launches specialist roofing brand

Minster Roofing and Roofline's first branch opened in Crawley on Monday December 3; a second in Luton is opening imminently, followed by further branch openings in 2013.

Roofing firm faces £23m bill over fire

A ROOFING contractor is facing a £23m claim over a catastrophic fire that devastated a West Midlands factory.
Central Roofing Ltd, based on David Street on the Bridgend Industrial Estate, faces the action after fire tore through Mueller Europe’s copper tubing factory in Bilston in 2008.
It’s claimed the blaze was sparked by gas heaters igniting a scaffolding deck put up to replace a roof containing asbestos.

On the 14th-16th November, Team GB headed to Lucerne, in central Switzerland for the 24th World Championship for Young Roofers and the 60th International Federation for the Roofing Trade (IFD) Congress.
At the last championship, back in 2010, Team GB had the home advantage as the National Federation of Roofing Contractors hosted the competition in Belfast and there they scooped one gold and two silver awards plus a President’s prize. Beacon Roofing quarterly profit falls 11%

Beacon Roofing Supply Inc.'s BECN -0.77% fiscal fourth-quarter profit fell 11% following a sizeable tax benefit for the roofing and remodeling company last year, though revenue increased.
The company, which distributes roofing and other building materials, has seen roofing sales rise in recent quarters, driven by higher industry-wide prices and an uptick in volume.
