£55million cash boost for repairs to homes in Camden

The Department for Communities and Local Government has announced that Camden will be allocated £55million, that we made a bid for, to bring homes up to a good repair standard. The money will improve the homes and lives of some of the Borough’s most vulnerable residents.

Camden submitted a bid for £85million in January 2011, but secured only £55million. The funding is spread over four years from 2011/12 to 2014/15.

Only the first two years of £8million and £9.5million funding are confirmed. The final two years of £10million and £27.5million are subject to the next comprehensive spending review and input from the Mayor.

The money will be spent on repairs to kitchens, bathrooms, wiring and heating systems inside homes. It will also be used for external work to buildings such as windows, lifts and roofs.

Councillor Julian Fulbrook, Cabinet member for housing said:

"Camden is committed to achieving the decent homes standard and is disappointed we did not receive all the funding that we bid for. Whilst any funding is welcomed we would have preferred to have the full £55million confirmed and available immediately so we can get on with the repairs work quickly.

"We will continue to push for additional funding so we can get on with the much needed improvements to our homes."
