No two oak frame houses are ever the same, just as no two oak trees are ever identical, and there are also plenty of factors to consider that will make your oak frame home look and feel unique. Welsh Oak Frame marketing manager Carol Parry, shares her advice on finishing touches to consider:
- When embarking on an oak frame home project, first consider what style of home you’d like, but remember that the planning department will often point you in a certain directionbased on your surroundings. You may want a modern, glass-heavy design, but if the rest of your village is filled with period properties you’ll have to veer towards a similar look, to stay in-keeping with the local style. But at the back of the building you may be able to opt for something completely different if you wish.
- Look at your plot of land and think about what it lends itself to. For example, on a sloping site you may choose to have a balcony at the front to enjoy the views and create extra space. Or you may want a sloping roof with dormer windows? Both of these additions can help to add character to your home.
- Using particular materials on the elevation of your home will certainly make the building more personal to you and your family. For example, a smooth boarding or glass can give the home an ultra-modern feel, while the addition of a chimney or Victorian-style window and doors can make a building look more traditional and older than its years.
- Roof finishes can also help to personalise the aesthetic; a steel-clad or glass roof will quickly give a contemporary feel, while slate will help create the more classic style of a bygone era.”
