Housing Minister visits Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts site

Minister for Housing and Welfare, Margaret Burgess, visited Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts’ West Langlands site to find out how the company is helping East Ayrshire Council tackle the shortage of social housing in the area.
The Minister visited the development, located in Kilmarnock, as part of a tour of affordable new homes in the East Ayrshire Council area. Organised by the local authority, the tour aimed to highlight the great work currently underway in the area to address the shortage of social and mid-market housing.
The contract worth £4.4 million will see the development of the 1.8 acre West Langlands site into 39 affordable housing units for East Ayrshire Council. Once complete the site will feature six property types – some designed for fully accessible wheelchair living.
Housing Minister Margaret Burgess, said: “Housing is a priority for the Scottish Government and the delivery of more affordable housing for the people of Scotland is high on our agenda. It is great to visit sites like West Langlands and to see how local councils are working with companies like Mactaggart & Mickel Contracts to help address the shortage of social housing in Scotland.
“We are working with partners across Scotland to stimulate growth, maximise our investment in housing and deliver on our target of 30,000 new, affordable homes over the lifetime of this Parliament.”
