Regeneration transforms the lives of local families

Halewood boasts one of the happiest communities in Merseyside – thanks to an exciting regeneration scheme that has transformed the area.

Penman Crescent and Jubilee Close, in Halewood, Knowsley, has been so successful that it has now been shortlisted for a prestigious RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) award.

It has been redeveloped by KHT (part of the First Ark Group) in partnership with building contractor Lovell and involved replacing old maisonette blocks with modern, eco-friendly homes, with off street parking and generous-sized gardens.

“This is an amazing project which has made a real difference to the lives of 21 families,” said Steve Heverin, Group Director of Products and Services at First Ark Group.

“The site previously housed maisonette blocks that were in desperate need of regeneration – so we developed modern, eco-friendly homes that have freshened up the neighbourhood radically.

“Residents have played a big part in designing their homes and, because they are built to a high standard, it is also putting money back into their pockets by creating beautiful, modern homes that reduce their energy bills,” added Steve.

The new development has been shortlisted in the ‘residential’ category of the RICS North West Regional Awards and the finalist will be announced at a ceremony in Manchester, in May.

The awards honour outstanding residential developments that have innovative design, sustainable principles and are a catalyst for better economic activity in the local area.

Throughout the construction work KHT, which manages 14,000 homes in Knowsley, was dedicated to providing local employment and using local labour – and the organisation worked closely with Building Skills for the Future to create eight apprentices and one trainee site manager.

The scheme is part of a wider regeneration plan, provided by KMBC for Halewood, which is acting as a catalyst of change across the area.

The development received grant funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
