The Institute of Acoustics is the UK’s professional body for those working in the acoustics, noise and vibration sectors. 

Formed in 1974, it has more than 3,000 members, ranging from university students to qualified professionals working in a diverse range of organisations.

Its many benefits include:

  • An internationally recognised professional qualification
  • A varied programme of workshops, conferences and meetings
  • Nine specialist interest groups (including environmental noise and measurement and instrumentation) and 11 regional branches
  • Superb local and national networking opportunities.

The Institute organises a range of professionally recognised courses at accredited centres across the country. These comprise:

  • a diploma in acoustics and noise control (also available through tutored distance learning) 
  • short certificate courses in building acoustics measurements, environmental noise measurement, management of occupational 
  • exposure to hand-arm vibration and workplace noise risk assessment.
