The Minus7 hybrid energy harvesting system, that provides hot water and heating for homes, has received recognition by winning the prestigious award for Energy Efficient Product of the Year in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC+R) category at the 2014 Energy Awards. The awards ceremony was held at the London Hilton on Park Lane on December 2nd and was hosted by comedian Alun Cochrane.
The company was delighted to be shortlisted, in a heavily subscribed category, alongside other finalists Airdale international Air Conditioning, Vickers Energy Group, Daikin, Baxi and 2012 winners Vent Axia.
“We have great respect for all of the other finalists and their products, but I think it’s fair to say that we were very pleased to have beaten much bigger companies. To put our name next to these long-standing, successful companies is what we are aiming to do in order to secure a leading spot for our system in the marketplace,” says Mark Wozencroft, Managing Director, of Minus7.
“We’re seeing increased interest in our product and this award will only help more people find out what the product is about - that it not only looks fantastic, but more importantly it’s an efficient and effective renewable energy system,” says Wozencroft.
Minus7 has patented the networking, and integrated use of heat pumps, with solar thermal collectors and thermal stores in order to provide homes with low cost heating and hot water. The system reduces the quantity of hydrocarbon required to deliver the thermal load and delivers it at a significantly lower unit cost (typically 50% - 60% less than the equivalent gas fired cost). This is in line with Government strategy to provide low carbon solutions and affordable warmth.
The Minus7 system is perfect for new build but also suitable for retro-fit and is especially suitable for multi-dwelling situations such as housing associations. Property developers have also found it to be economically attractive, especially when taking RHI payments into account, recovering their capital expenditure by raising the value in both rented and properties for sale.
“It is a huge validation of all of the work that has gone into creating, developing and manufacturing what we believe will be a market-changing system. We wanted to create a visually pleasing renewable energy system that is highly efficient and provides low cost heat and hot water for end users. It’s our mission to make renewable energy a sensible investment,” says Wozencroft.
The esteemed judging panel had the very difficult task of narrowing down the entries to an exceptional shortlist and then to select the winners. The judges were extremely impressed with all the hard work and innovation displayed by the entrants this year. The judges had this to say about the Minus7 system: “This product provides a holistic, integrated approach to meeting energy demand and renewables targets. It is a potentially disruptive technology for the UK.”
This is a big step in our plan to gain brand exposure and awareness for our product within the marketplace. It’s a huge boost in terms of marketing and public relations. Our product is now being seen by the right people, at the highest levels. The opportunity to increase the exposure of our system to the marketplace and to interact with other award winners and short-listed companies on the night of the awards was very positive. It’s very gratifying for us to win this award,” says Wozencroft.
