Construction Summit to help fuel economic growth

Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce is hosting the first Greater Manchester Construction Summit this summer to assess the current state of the industry and its importance for the region’s economy.

Estimated to be the largest event of its kind outside of London, the Summit will include a keynote speech from Peter Hansford, Chief Construction Adviser to the Government, as well as panel discussions from the UK’s leading experts on key areas impacting the construction industry. Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council and James Wates, Chairman of the Construction Industry Training Board, are also confirmed to speak.

With a potential construction pipeline of £15bn in Greater Manchester alone up to 2018, the Summit intends to address the issues of growth, procurement, innovation, skills and training. Delegates will be able to vote live on various topics to fully inform the debates.

Commenting on the Construction Summit, Jocelyne Underwood, Construction Sector Lead at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, said:

“This event will give construction companies and those involved in the industry the opportunity to tell Government directly how they are impacted by the issues and threats to their sector, making their voices heard.

“Specific areas the Summit will focus on include best practice in procurement, the future training needs of the industry as well as forthcoming opportunities; the topics our members have been particularly vocal about over the last few months.

“As this is the first Greater Manchester Construction Summit of its kind, we’re looking forward to delivering it alongside high profile partners and making a real difference to construction sector businesses in our region.”

The Summit has been organised in collaboration with The Cabinet Office, RIBA, North West Construction Hub, North West Client Group, ICE NW, ACE and RICS. Up to 400 delegates are expected to attend the event and receive the latest market intelligence, plus have access to regional and national buyers.

The Construction Summit takes place on Friday 11th July at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club. Businesses should email This email address is being protected from spambots.
