BESCA achieves Installer Product Certification Body Accreditation

The Building Engineering Services Competence Assessment body (BESCA), a leading independent certification body for installers who wish to self-certify or notify work under the Building Regulations, has been granted Green Deal and CPS UKAS Accreditation.

The achievement of accreditation in accordance with the recognised European Standard (EN45011:1998/ISO/IEC Guide 65:1996) general requirements for bodies operating product certification systems demonstrates that BESCA has undergone stringent UKAS assessment and evaluation to demonstrate its competence, impartiality and performance capability.

The Green Deal is a vital part of the Government's Green Jobs agenda and is set to create 65,000 jobs in the low carbon economy. Heating Engineers, Electricians, Door & Window Fitters, Insulation Installers and General Contractors who wish to provide energy efficiency improvements and carbon emission reductions in existing buildings will need to obtain Green Deal Installer certification.

The first step in the certification process for interested individuals and businesses is to register their interest or download scheme documentation from www.besca.org.uk. BESCA’s highly qualified team will review their application to ensure all scheme requirements are met. An office and site assessment is then undertaken in line with PAS2030 requirements.

The outcome of the audit will dictate whether or not certification is granted, with the whole process from application to final certification taking six to eight weeks.

The key benefit of obtaining certification through BESCA is having the ability to use the distinctive Green Deal Installer Quality Mark – a seal of approval for the installer, and a sign of reassurance for the customer.

Other benefits of BESCA certification include registration with the Green Deal Oversight Body which enables consumers to locate certificated installers in their area, access to government funding initiatives and BESCA membership privileges including a technical advice helpline, B&ES Technical Publications at a reduced rate and an insurance-backed warranty scheme.
