Historical Pallet Truck production line ends

In an announcement last week, materials handling manufacturer, Advanced Handling, confirmed their historical pallet truck line would be discontinued at the end of this year. Whilst this symbolic announcement marks the end of an era for Advanced Handling, the company continues with their focus on new product development and group product solutions which support today’s ergonomic operations and business environments.

Advanced Handling, based in Market Deeping, Peterborough, was established in 1977 manufacturing the hand pump Pallet Truck. A company built on entrepreneurial spirit by the founder Tony Harding, has today become one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and distributors of lifting solutions for materials handling, supporting the reduction of manual handling risks. Advanced Handling has seen progressive development across their product portfolio during their three decades. In the mid 1980’s the company designed and manufactured a series of scissor lift tables followed by the award winning Voyager Stacker launched in 2000. Today the range of solutions has developed to meet today’s industry challenges and safety regulations.

In recent years Advanced Handling has moved from high volume low margin products such as the pallet truck into more complex bespoke solutions. The recent company announcement reflects this as Commercial Director, Liz Middleton explains, “Our product portfolio has grown considerably over the years and already provides a strong range of alternative lifting equipment and solutions for pallet loading and unloading, therefore the decision to discontinue the pallet truck line is one based on growth and development, rather than loss.”

The announcement has had no effect on employment at the site due to the development of the company’s leading handling solutions which are designed to support challenges of today’s industry.

Advanced Handling is currently developing a number of existing solutions including the mezzanine floor goods lift range and the Voyager Freedom stackers and continues to supply UK manufacturers, engineering and warehouse and logistics operations across various industries.

Today the future for Advanced Handling is strengthened by technical innovations, new team members and growth of their group product portfolio including ergonomic lightweight lifting trolleys and overhead vacuum handling solutions from the PRONOMIC and Movomech ranges.

In summary the announcement reflects the future business strategy for growth and development as Managing Director, Mike Prince explains, “Our business has changed rapidly over the last 12 months internally and externally, and our future strategy is to move forward as a group delivering solutions for the UK market.”

With tens of thousands of Advanced Handling pallet trucks in use across the UK, the company still continues to provide aftercare support with servicing, parts and repairs.
