Construction workers will step-up their demonstrations at the Capenhurst construction project near Chester over attacks on terms and conditions by the site's owner Urenco and its contractor Jacobs.

Hundreds of demonstrators are expected at the site from 6.00am tomorrow (27 February 2013). Unions are once again being forced to take action in the defence of a long standing agreement, the national agreement for the engineering construction industry (NAECI). Unite is accusing the employers of undermining the NAECI which has been in existence for more than 30 years and sets terms and conditions for construction workers.

Names of companies have been published for the first time today after HMRC was given the power to publish the names to deter UK taxpayers from deliberately defaulting on their tax obligations.

Rochester-based Gatemain Contractors Ltd, property maintenance trader Mr David Alan Jay of Essex and pipework specialist Mr S Stewart of Liverpool are all included on the list of tax defaulters.

The UK’s main warranty provider and standard setting body for new homes has also axed its resolution charge of £350 for each visit following a significant drop in requests to resolve disputes between builders and homeowners.

It will stop charging for resolutions backdated to 1 January 2013 and will offer refunds for any charges made since then.
