£350m Gateshead housing regeneration scheme goes for planning

Planning applications for the first phases of one of the most ambitious housing regeneration projects seen on Tyneside in decades have been submitted to Gateshead Council.

Plans for 472 new homes on sites in Saltwell & Bensham, Deckham and Birtley in Gateshead have been submitted by Gateshead Regeneration Partnership (GRP).

House building starts slump below 100,000

Government measures to stimulate house building in England are failing after latest official figures show annual starts fell 11% to 98,280.

The dismal figure is well below the 230,000 starts needed to meet demand and half the peak in the year to March 2006.

Property experts have warned the owner occupier model for delivering housing is failing. They are now calling for a Government rethink to generate a big push to build privately rented homes paid for by pension funds.

Bardsley wins £13m Salford new housing job

Bardsley Construction is starting a £13m contract to build 78 affordable homes and a new extra care facility in West Salford for social housing provider City West Housing Trust.

The Manchester-based builder will design and construct the properties on a 13.2 acre brownfield site at Amblecote Drive, Little Hulton.

Construction of 114 new affordable homes in two sites in Dundee

The announcement will see the transformation of the derelict Wallace Craigie Works site in the Blackscroft area of the city.

Contracts have been signed with two developers, James Keiller Estates and Ferrier Holdings, for the construction of 114 homes.

Galliford Try wins £60m haul of social housing work

Galliford Try’s housing partnerships business has been named as preferred bidder for several projects worth more than £60m.

In London, housing association Affinity Sutton has named Galliford Try as preferred bidder for the Hampstead Reach project in north London, which will see the creation of 80 mixed tenure homes and commercial units under a £15.6m contract.

Partnerships has also been selected as preferred bidder by both developer Kitewood Estates and registered provider Gallions Housing to build 137 homes and commercial units in a £15.5m deal at Blackwall Lane in east London.
